Foreign assets whether property, time shares, bank accounts, investments, holiday homes, etc all create complications of any U.K. Domicile.

Although an English will should suffice, needless to say it creates complications, due to probate issues and HMRC legislation.

Some countries have double taxation treaties with the United Kingdom, but far too often properties are not transferable without Probate of that country. Language and legislation of that country along with succession law of that country will apply. Domicility is another complex issue, ( usually it is the clients fathers country of birth that dictates the domicility) this is called the Domicile or originality but often people wrongly assume that because they are British or have a dual nationality or were born here they are of British Domicility.

This is so important to get clear advise on, as the Revenue will not allow tax planning to the same extent to non Domiciles of the United Kingdom.

Irish & Scottish Domicile is also something to consider, as their Succession laws are not the same as England & Wales.

French Succession is very Complex and still dates back to Napoleonic times, as assets are usually never held as jointly owned and must pass to heirs only 1/3 to spouse, which often causes complications, and may not be your intended wish.
